GloSwitch – Cross-Border Payments & Currency Exchange Platform

The Challenge

A fintech platform enabling fast, low-fee cross-border money transfers and currency exchange for African users — designed and built end-to-end to make sending money home as simple as sending a text.

The Problem

Traditional cross-border money transfer in Africa is slow and expensive. Diaspora communities sending money home, freelancers getting paid by international clients, and small businesses managing cross-border payroll are all hit by high fees, opaque exchange rates, and multi-day settlement times — friction that disproportionately affects the people who can least afford it.

The Solution

GloSwitch is a fintech platform built to remove that friction: users convert currency directly to their receiver's local currency and complete transfers in minutes rather than days, at a fraction of the cost of traditional remittance channels. The platform was designed from the ground up around the realities of the African market — intermittent connectivity, mobile-first usage, and trust-building for a category (money movement) where credibility is everything.

Design & Development Approach

I took this project through full design and development, covering:

  • Trust-first visual design — a platform handling people's money needs to feel secure and legitimate from the first screen, so the interface leans into clarity, confirmation states, and transparent fee/rate display rather than flashy fintech tropes
  • Core transaction flows — currency conversion, transfer initiation, identity verification, and real-time transaction tracking, each designed to minimize steps and ambiguity at the moments users are most anxious (moving money)
  • Performance under real-world constraints — built with the low-bandwidth, often-3G conditions common across the target markets in mind, so the app stays usable even on weaker connections

Outcome

A live, launched fintech product handling real cross-border transfers for individuals, freelancers, and small businesses — built to compete with traditional remittance services on speed, cost, and trust.
